Fear Can’t Stop Me: Living with Godfidence

Fear has a way of creeping in quietly and quickly if we’re not careful. I can’t count the number of times I’ve heard unsettling news or had a worrisome thought cross my mind, and all I could do was whisper, ‘God, I’m scared.’”

And you know what? God can take that. He wants us to come to Him with our worries, our fears, our raw emotions. But He doesn’t want us to live there. We are not called to a life of fear.

A few years ago, our family took a trip to Georgia. It was the first time our girls saw the ocean. My youngest daughter had this bold little mantra whenever a big wave came at her:
“Fear can’t stop me from what I can do!”
She’d shout it with joy, leap into the wave, and come up laughing.

I love that. And I think we need to remember it more often. Fear is a gripping force—it can paralyze us, distract us, and keep us from stepping into what God has for us. But we are called to overcome it.

Did you know there are 365 verses in the Bible that tell us not to fear? One for every single day of the year. That’s no coincidence. God knew we’d need daily reminders because fear is easy. Rebuking fear takes faith, strength, and trust.

“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”
Joshua 1:9

“Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God.”
Isaiah 41:10

“Whenever I am afraid, I will trust in You.”
Psalm 56:3

Fear is sneaky. It doesn’t always come in the form of big, dramatic moments. Sometimes, it’s subtle—like the irrational fear I had after getting LASIK surgery. Even though I no longer needed glasses or contacts, I couldn’t bring myself to throw them away. What if my vision reverted? What if I needed them again?

Three years later, those contacts were still sitting in my bathroom drawer. That fear, however small it seemed, had taken up space in my life—literally and emotionally.

But fear doesn’t belong in the life of a believer. It keeps us focused on what might happen instead of what God has already promised. It keeps us stuck, distracted, and disconnected from the peace that Jesus offers.

Three years later, I finally threw them out. And guess what? My vision didn’t change. That fear had held me captive far too long. It stole space in my drawer and peace in my mind.

That’s what fear does—it keeps us focused on what might happen, instead of trusting in what God has already done.

The enemy wants to keep us in fear because fear distracts us from our purpose. But God calls us to walk in Godfidence—confidence rooted in Him.

“Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you… Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”
John 14:27

So what do we do with fear when it shows up again?

We recognize it, but we don’t partner with it. We acknowledge the feeling, but we refuse to let it dictate our decisions. Instead, we lean into truth—the truth of God’s Word, the truth of His promises, and the truth of His presence.

Fear may knock, but it doesn’t get to move in.

Godfidence means walking forward even when the path isn’t fully clear, trusting that the One who called us is faithful to complete the work He began. It means choosing courage over comfort, peace over panic, and faith over fear.

So whether your fear looks like a pair of old glasses in a drawer or something much bigger—like stepping into a new calling, letting go of a past hurt, or trusting God with your future—know this:

You are not alone. You are not forgotten. You are not powerless.

God is with you. He is for you. And He is working all things together for your good.

Let’s be women (and men!) who walk boldly in Godfidence, knowing that fear doesn’t get the final say—faith does.

“Fear can’t stop me from what I can do!”
Better yet—fear can’t stop me from what GOD has called me to do.
