Purple Shirt

Twice a year, my church does a 21 Days of Prayer. During this time, we make sure to dedicate time spent in prayer. People from the church and sometimes outside the church send us all sorts of prayer requests ranging from cancer and health needs to jobs and kids.

During the weeks of 21 Days of Prayer, we join together to corporately pray over these needs together.

One day, I came across a prayer card, that was very obviously written by one of our children, that simply said:

My purple shirt that my mom gave me.

Now, I have no idea if this was a positive statement or what exactly this child is asking for in this prayer request, but it did get me thinking.

This child came to Jesus with no inhibitions. They said what was on their heart with no concerns about if Jesus would care about what they had to say. They knew He would care. That’s why they asked.

There is a reason that Jesus said:

Whoever humbled themself as this little child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.

Matthew 18:4 NKJV

As adults, we become so concerned with logistics. We don’t want to ask God for little things because we think they are too trivial for Him. Sometimes we don’t even want to ask Him for the big things because we don’t want burden Him or be a bother.

Am I the only one that’s struggled with this?

But when you ask a child, it can be something as simple as a purple shirt. Child-like faith brings EVERYTHING to God. It trusts in the Father that no matter what is being ask, they are being heard by Someone who loves them.

And anyone who has a child knows that even if they answer is no, they keep asking.

Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you will receive them and you will have them.

Mark 11:24

Believe

It can be so much simpler as a child. Before we let the world tarnish our thoughts.

WE CAN’T LET IT!

We need to renew our mind daily. We need to bring back the child like wonder and faith. We need to come to our God like a child seeking wisdom and guidance from a loving Father. Knowing that even if the answer is no, there is a good reason for it. But to never stop asking and never stop being grateful. Even if it is just something like a purple shirt.
