It is so hard to follow your dream. To keep going when it seems like obstacles are continually rising up against you.
A few months ago, I was sitting outside our hotel at DisneyWorld just marveling at the enormity of where we were and the dream it took to make that into a reality.
Then I was reminded of all of the heartache that Walt Disney went through before his dream made it to completion. About a year or so ago, I had watched a movie called Walt Before Mickey. This movie is so good for someone that feels like their dreams are never going anywhere and that the world is against them because if anyone could relate to that, it’s Walt Disney.
Walt had a dream to draw and make movies from a young age. The drive to make this dream come true and to never give up led him to multiple bankruptcies and many people telling him to let it go because it was never going to happen. He seemed to finally catch a break with one of his early cartoons, only to have the company take his rights to the cartoon and leave him with nothing.
Eventually, he sat down and created Mickey Mouse and as you know the rest is history. It expanded probably beyond even what Walt Disney himself expected.
I think this is great reminder to us that feel our dreams will never come true. The ones that feel like everything is rising against them. A reminder to keep going. Keep pushing for your dreams. Persevere! Because if God has placed that dream in your heart the only thing stopping you from achieving it is yourself!
This was a good reminder for me as I push forward in my dreams. It is a good lesson for my children as they develop their own dreams. Very rarely are things going to be handed to you. It takes hard work, stamina and as my grandma would say, lots of SISU!
SISU: taking action against the odds and displaying courage and resoluteness in the face of adversity, in other words, deciding on a course of action and then sticking to that decision even despite repeated failures
So don’t let a failure get you down, store up plenty of that sisu and keep moving forward with your dreams!
